The irony is rich. While China complains that Japan is acting irresponsibly and fueling instability and insecurity in the Indo-Pacific region, the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) test-fired a missile, yet another sign of that country’s increasingly capable military and the alarm it is triggering among regional governments.
China takes offense when other governments call it out for misbehavior. They must not be deterred or distracted. Asian security demands that all countries follow the rule of law and respect the status quo.
On July 6, the PLAN fired a “strategic missile” from a submarine, its first publicly acknowledged strategic submarine-launched ballistic missile test. Little official information was announced.
