Japan will not be able to compete in the men’s two-man bobsled event at next month’s Milano Cortina Winter Olympics after the national federation misunderstood the qualification requirements to enter the competition.
The Japan Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton Federation announced Tuesday that it had lost its chance to qualify for the event under the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) rules.
In a statement on the federation’s official website, it acknowledged that a misunderstanding by its competition committee had proved fatal to Japan’s Olympic hopes.
